The City of Wilmington has opened the application process for its biennial Human Service Grant in a continued commitment to support local organizations that provide services to Wilmington residents who are disproportionately impacted by adversity. The deadline to apply is 5:00 p.m. on Friday, January 26.
The grants will address five focus areas:
- Lower the risk of youth violence by providing programming that enhances academic success, increases positive community involvement, and prepares youth for future employment or academic pursuits.
- Improve economic conditions and promote prosperity for low-to-moderate-income citizens through mentoring, job readiness, job skills training, career coaching, job placement, and financial literacy.
- Provide a safe haven for vulnerable residents including, but not limited to, survivors of domestic and sexual violence, and child abuse and neglect. Offer emergency housing and/or services to assist survivors to regain security and stability.
- Prevent displacement and loss of housing by providing housing repair for low-income homeowners, especially the elderly and disabled.
- Increase access to healthy, nutritious food for households experiencing food insecurity and/or residing in a food desert.
Organizations who are interested in applying should register for one of two mandatory Human Service Grant Workshops on January 5, 2024, at 2 pm or January 12, 2024, at 10 am.
