The Wilmington City Council will hold a regular meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 23 at 6:30 p.m. inside Council Chambers at City Hall, located at 102 North Third Street.

Items of interest include:

  • City of Wilmington/New Hanover County Workforce Housing Advisory Committee Annual Update
  • Presentation of WPD 2023 Year End Crime Statistics
  • Annual Greenhouse Gas Emissions Report
  • A contract for the removal and stump-grinding of 31 dead and dying trees from City rights-of-way, including the removal of up to 19 dying trees, mostly laurel oaks, on Market Street between 12th and 21st streets. Once the work begins, it should take about four (4) weeks to complete. Tree replacement, where appropriate, will occur during the planting season in the spring and fall of 2024.
  • A cost-sharing agreement with New Hanover County and the New Hanover County Schools to allow for replacement of the synthetic turf at Legion Stadium. If approved, the $690,000 cost would be shared equally among the three agencies and work would take place this Spring.
  • A resolution establishing a framework for the Steering Committee for the Greater Downtown Special Area Plan. The estimated timeline for completion of the Plan is 16 months and includes extensive community outreach to residents and stakeholders which has already begun. A Steering Committee representing a broad range of city staff, partner agencies, and Greater Downtown residents and business representatives is vital in providing overall direction for community engagement efforts, the draft plan, and implementation following adoption.
  • A ten-year lease of office space on the 4th floor of the Skyline Center to the Wilmington and Beaches Convention & Visitors Bureau
