Washington, D.C. — Senator Ted Budd (R-NC) expressed his opposition to a national security spending package that lacked provisions to secure the southern border. In his speech on the Senate floor, he highlighted the severity of the ongoing border crisis and emphasized the need to prioritize border security.

Budd stated, "We are currently facing the worst border crisis in U.S. history. We're feeling the consequences of this crisis all over the country." He further criticized Senate Democrats, stating that they are "beholden to progressive ideologies and ideologues who believe in open borders."

Acknowledging the importance of addressing both domestic and international threats, Budd emphasized the need to rebuild the nation's defense capabilities and prepare for the challenge posed by the Chinese Communist Party. He stressed, "If we let our own defense atrophy, and we leave our allies high and dry, forces of evil and instability will be even more emboldened and our world will become even more dangerous."

Budd argued that securing the southern border is crucial for the United States to effectively support other countries in protecting their borders. He shared the results of a poll conducted during one of his telephone town halls, where he asked participants if they would support sending support to allies and partners if the southern border was secure. "Roughly two-thirds of the respondents said yes," he revealed, suggesting that most people are not opposed to helping friends but believe in prioritizing the nation's security.

Highlighting the need for action, Budd stated, "The truth is that this entire process is not working. The only viable path forward is for Congress to force President Biden to get serious about border security, and then for the American people to see the situation at the border start to get better." He urged the nation to prioritize its own security while remaining committed to helping allies and partners.

In conclusion, Senator Ted Budd expressed his strong opposition to a national security spending package that did not include provisions for border security. He emphasized the urgency of addressing the border crisis and underscored the importance of securing the nation's borders before assisting other countries. Budd's speech serves as a reminder that a strong nation begins with a secure homeland.
