Washington, D.C. — Senator Ted Budd (R-NC) delivered a speech on the Senate floor, highlighting the actions of Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas as the cause of the crisis at the southern border. During his address, Senator Budd emphasized the importance of strong borders for a strong nation, stating, “In order to be a strong nation, we have to have strong borders. And right now, we don’t have that. We haven’t had that for three years.”
Regarding Secretary Mayorkas, Senator Budd accused him of intentionally undermining security at the southern border since the beginning of his tenure. He mentioned, “From the very beginning of his tenure at DHS, Secretary Mayorkas has intentionally undermined security at the southern border again and again and again.” Senator Budd labeled the actions of Secretary Mayorkas as a “dereliction of duty” and argued that accountability is necessary, noting, “He must be held accountable. And that’s why he was the second cabinet secretary ever to be impeached by the House of Representatives.”
In his speech, Senator Budd also issued a warning to Senate Democrats, urging them not to dismiss the impeachment charges against Secretary Mayorkas. He stressed, “The U.S. Senate has a Constitutional duty to take these charges seriously and conduct a full trial on the merits. To do anything less would be an insult to the victims of these open border policies.”
The call for an impeachment trial against Secretary Mayorkas comes amidst heightened tensions surrounding the issue of border security in the United States. Senator Ted Budd’s address serves as a vocal stance against the alleged actions of Secretary Mayorkas and emphasizes the need for accountability in upholding border security measures.
