Washington, D.C. — Today, Senator Ted Budd (R-NC) commended the University of North Carolina's swift action in response to a pro-Hamas mob incident that occurred on campus this week. The Senator's remarks came after a video statement was released where he highlighted the positive steps taken by the university.

In the video, Senator Budd praised the actions of Chancellor Lee Roberts and the campus community, stating, “Right here in North Carolina, we saw a true act of leadership. At the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, a pro-Hamas mob briefly took down the American flag and replaced it with the Palestinian flag. Within an hour, Chancellor Lee Roberts personally walked Old Glory back into the center of campus and raised it back up. He did so with help from members of law enforcement and patriotic students who stood watch and made sure our flag did not touch the ground."

Senator Budd emphasized the importance of the university's response, describing it as a model for other institutions and leaders, saying, "What happened at UNC is a model for other universities and for other leaders across the nation. Moral clarity, courage, and patriotism should always guide our actions."

The incident at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill serves as a reminder of the significance of upholding national symbols and values on college campuses. Senator Budd's recognition of the university's actions sheds light on the importance of swift and decisive responses to such incidents.
