The Wilmington City Council has announced that they will convene for a regular meeting on Tuesday, May 6, 2024, at 6:30 p.m. inside Council Chambers at City Hall, located at 102 North Third Street.
Among the items to be discussed during the meeting are several proclamations, presentations, and funding allocations. Notable agenda items include the proclamation naming May as Bicycle Awareness Month, Garden for Wildlife Month, and Safe Boating Week in Wilmington. Additionally, there will be a presentation by the Wilmington Tree Commission's Heritage Tree Awards and the presentation of the City Manager's FY25 Recommended Budget.
One significant proposal on the agenda is a $494,546 contract to replace the 13-year-old synthetic turf at Legion Stadium. Furthermore, there will be discussions on funding ordinances for the Kerr Avenue Multi-Use trail and the Skyline Center, among others.
Of particular interest is a resolution to award additional gap financing from the HUD HOME Investment Partnership Program towards the creation of affordable workforce housing at the Sterling Reserve Project on Carolina Beach Road. This project aims to provide affordable housing options for senior households with incomes ranging from 30% to 80% Area Median Income.
Moreover, a resolution supporting Wilmington as the preferred future location for the North Carolina Submarine Museum will be deliberated. The North Carolina Submarine Museum Foundation is considering Charlotte, Asheville, or Wilmington as potential sites for the museum.
In preparation for the meeting, the City Council has invited the public to view the full agenda online and submit written comments for public hearings through an online comment form. Comments received before noon on Monday, May 6, will be included in the public record.
For those unable to attend the meeting in person, remote viewing options are available through GTV8, the city's website, and YouTube channel. Alternatively, viewers can download the "cablecast" app and search for "City of Wilmington" to access the live stream.
