Moms for Liberty has endorsed Natosha Tew in her race for a seat on the New Hanover County School (NHCS) Board. Early voting will take place from October 17 to November 2 for the November 5 general election.

On her campaign website, Tew said she made the decision to homeschool her daughter because she was disappointed with what the public school system had to offer, and she believes that gives her further insight into what's wrong with New Hanover County Public Schools and helps fuel her desire to improve what she sees as a broken system.

"The foundation of my candidacy is on fixing our schools by removing the politicized 'Woke' curriculum," Tew said. "I want to return our schools to using proven educational principles."

In a letter to voters posted on her campaign website, Tew emphasized using a merit-based system in evaluating, hiring, and promoting faculty and staff. She also shared that her key objectives include working to make sure that materials in schools are both age-appropriate and will foster learning, promoting civic and constitutional literacy, and implementing policies that will help make schools safer and promote students' wellbeing.

"We all have to do better because letting the schools do everything has been a disaster," Tew said in a February 2024 candidate questionnaire for Port City Daily. "The schools should welcome getting rid of duties that are outside their ability and authority to provide, and should welcome engaged, passionate parents, who are the greatest untapped resource any school district has. Here’s a tip: Don’t trust anyone who says parents are the problem."

According to the NHCS Board of Education manual, the Board comprises seven members. Terms are four years and staggered so that three or four members are elected every two years. Members are elected on a partisan basis.

Moms for Liberty is a parental-rights-in-education advocacy group founded by Tiffany Justice and Tina Descovich, two former school board members. According to their website, "Moms for Liberty is dedicated to fighting for the survival of America by unifying, educating and empowering parents to defend their parental rights at all levels of government."
