FOIA Request Sent to Brunswick County Election Department Regarding Pre-Election Voting Machine Test Reports on October 30, 2024

FOIA Request to Brunswick County Election Department Regarding Pre-Election Voting Machine Test Reports on October 30, 2024. As a part of our commitment to provide comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at SE North Carolina News have submitted a request for public records under the North Carolina Public Records Law, G.S. §132-1.

Our request specifically pertains to the pre-election test reports of voting machines used in the county's elections. We have asked for these reports in an electronic format, preferably PDF, with specific fields that include the test date, machine manufacture details, machine model number, and the status of the machine - whether it passed or failed during testing.

As a media organization involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, access to such public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These responsibilities include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional.

We await a response from the Brunswick County Election Department and will continue our efforts to ensure transparency and accountability in local government affairs.
