FOIA Request to New Hanover County Election Department Regarding Pre-Election Voting Machine Test Reports on October 30, 2024.
We at SE North Carolina News have officially requested records under the North Carolina Public Records Law, G.S. §132-1., from the New Hanover County Election Department. The request is specifically for the pre-election test reports of voting machines used in the upcoming elections.
The desired records are expected to be in a PDF format and should include details such as the test date, machine manufacture, machine model number, and machine status (whether it passed or failed).
As a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we believe that access to these public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These responsibilities include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.
Given our role in disseminating information, we have requested a fee waiver as a media professional. We await a response from the New Hanover County Election Department regarding this request.
