Senator Ted Budd from North Carolina has announced the signing of the Emergency Medical Services for Children (EMSC) Reauthorization Act into law. This legislation aims to ensure that children receive appropriate care during medical emergencies.

The EMSC program, established in 1984, is the only federal initiative dedicated to improving emergency care for children and adolescents. It provides tailored medical equipment and sets recommended dosage requirements for prescription drugs, helping healthcare professionals address the specific needs of young patients. The program has contributed to a reduction in pediatric injury-related death rates by over 40%.

The bipartisan bill was spearheaded in the Senate by Senator Budd and former Senator Bob Casey from Pennsylvania. In the House of Representatives, it was led by Reps. Buddy Carter from Georgia, Kathy Castor from Florida, John Joyce from Pennsylvania, and Kim Schrier from Washington.

Senator Budd expressed his support for the program, stating: “The Emergency Medical Services for Children program has been an effective federal effort to ensure that children are able to have their medical needs met in an emergency. I’m proud to help lead the reauthorization of this program so that medical professionals have the tools they need to care for young patients for years to come.”
