Senator Ted Budd from North Carolina has joined forces with Senator Ted Cruz of Texas to co-sponsor the Protecting Military Installations and Ranges Act. This legislative proposal aims to safeguard Department of Defense installations and training areas from potential threats posed by foreign adversaries.

The bill specifically targets property acquisitions by individuals or entities acting on behalf of countries such as Russia, China, Iran, or North Korea. By restricting these purchases, the legislation seeks to prevent potential security risks near military facilities.

Senator Budd emphasized the significance of this measure, stating: "The Chinese Communist Party’s purchase of land near military facilities around our country is a direct threat to our national security. This practice must be stopped to keep military installations in North Carolina and around the country secure. I’d like to thank Senator Cruz for leading this critical legislation."

Senator Cruz echoed these concerns, noting that "foreign adversaries are exploiting loopholes to acquire land near our military bases and training routes, jeopardizing the safety of our troops and the integrity of our operations." He expressed pride in introducing the bill and urged swift action from the Senate: "I am proud to introduce this legislation, which will block our adversaries from acquiring assets that could undermine our defense. I urge the Senate to expeditiously take it up and pass it."
