SWCD Board of Supervisors' Meeting issued the following announcement on Feb. 13.
Through the Arbor Day Foundation’s Tree Recovery Campaign and its partnership with Verizon, 500 3-gallon trees will be given to Wilmington area homeowners on Saturday.
Together with members of the Alliance for Cape Fear Trees, Verizon employees will distribute the trees at Legion Stadium on Carolina Beach Road from 9 a.m.-noon, or as long as trees are available. Native species will be distributed with a limit of two trees per person. Arborists will be onsite to assist residents. Trees will be free of charge for area residents and are offered to help replace trees lost or damaged by Hurricane Florence.
Sponsors of the tree giveaway are the Arbor Day Foundation, Arbor Day Community Recovery Program, Verizon, the City of Wilmington, and the Alliance for Cape Fear Trees. “We are delighted to partner with the Arbor Day Foundation and Verizon to replenish what was lost, while educating our citizens on the importance of proper tree planting and tree care,” said Connie Parker, founder of the Alliance for Cape Fear Trees.
