Kimberly Carson appointed as Wilmington's Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

The City of Wilmington has announced the appointment of Kimberly Carson as its new Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. Carson, hailing from Burlington, Vermont, brings with her a wealth of experience in equity and inclusion strategies, having led such initiatives in Burlington since 2022. Prior to her tenure in Vermont, she held various roles within the Iowa Judicial Branch, including positions in talent management and development, leadership development, and diversity and inclusion.

In her new role, Carson will head the city’s Equity & Inclusion Office. This office was founded in 2022 as part of the City Council's unanimous commitment to the Rise Together Initiative. The initiative aims to ensure that every resident of Wilmington is valued equally and has access to the same opportunities for prosperity and quality of life. Within this organization, Carson will be a key player in employee relations, community relations, and equitable service delivery.

Carson holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Louisiana State University and a DEI Certification from Cornell University. She is currently pursuing a Master’s Degree in Organizational Leadership and Learning at George Washington University. Her tenure with the City of Wilmington commences on May 20.
